When I first heard that Cosrx was creating the Triple C Lightning Liquid I was very keen on trying it out. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one from their first batch. The product sold out very quickly as they only produce these serums in a small batches to ensure the freshness, so I was stoked I managed to get one at all. It’s second batch that was released a few months ago also sold out quickly and is currently unavailable again.
What is the Cosrx Triple C Lightning Liquid?
The Cosrx Triple C Lightning Liquid is a Vitamin C serum created in collaboration with Charlotte Cho of SokoGlam. The serum contains a high amount of Vitamin C that can help to lighten dark spots and brighten your overall skin tone along with many other benefits.
The entire packaging for this Cosrx Triple C Lightning Liquid is so different from the usual simple white packaging of other Cosrx products. The serum comes in a glossy black box with metallic gold text that looks very luxurious and premium, like that of a high-end beauty brand. Similarly to the outer packaging, the serum also sticks to the black and gold colour scheme. The serum is in a sleek black glass bottle with metallic gold text printed on it and a black screw top lid. The dropper for the serum was packaged separately in a plastic pouch. The dropper itself has a shiny gold lid with a white dropper. I also received a bonus little makeup pouch that is black with cute little yellow lightning bolts printed on it. I really like the look and feel of the packaging for this serum as it looks so classy and sleek.
How to Use
After cleansing and toning, 2-3 drops of the serum can be applied directly to your face followed by your usual skincare routine. The Triple C Lightning Liquid is recommended to be used as a night treatment since it is an exfoliator and can make skin more sensitive to the sun. Thus, whilst using this serum it is best to always apply sunscreen like you usually would during the day. For those with more sensitive skin or trying out a Vitamin C Serum for the first time, it is recommended that you mix 1-2 drops of this serum into your toner, essence or moisturiser for the first 2 weeks. This method allows the skin to adjust to the highly concentrated amount of pure Vitamin C in the serum that some people may experience sensitivity to on their skin upon application. This was my first time using a Vitamin C serum so I followed the recommendations to mix it into my moisturiser for the first 2 weeks.
The serum has a potent amount of 20.5% pure Vitamin C which will oxidize over time and has a shelf life of roughly 3 months. The liquid itself is clear in colour and essentially looks like water. When the liquid changes colour from clear to a dark yellow or brown then you know it’s time to throw it out. The high amount of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) present in the serum makes it a stronger and more effective serum so that you will be able to see changes in your skin quite rapidly. In addition, the serum also contains another key ingredient, 72% Black Chokeberry (Aronia Melanocarpa fruit extract). The Black Chokeberry brings lots of benefits to the serum – it is an antioxidant, it hydrates the skin and lastly, helps to stabilise the formula.
The serum is very watery which I didn’t like as I had to work really fast to apply it or would end up dripping and wasting some of the product. It also absorbs very quickly leaving no sticky residue which is great as I don’t like having a sticky or oily feeling on my skin. I found that because the serum absorbed so quickly (almost within seconds upon application) it made it hard to apply evenly to the skin as there wasn’t a lot of time to apply it all over the face before it absorbed into the skin. The liquid has a very slight sweet scent that fades after application.
Aronia melanocarpa fruit extract, ascorbic acid, Butylene glycol, Sodium lactate, Licorice root extract, 1,2- Hexanediol, Pullulan, Sodium hyaluronate, Cassia obtusifolia seed extract, and Allantoin.
20.5% Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), 72% Black Chokeberry (Aronia Melanocarpa fruit extract).
After using it now for almost 2 months, I’m completely in love! After a few days I had already noticed some improvements in my complexion and skin texture. My skin definitely looked brighter and felt smoother. After a few weeks I noticed that it had also helped to fade some pigmentation and acne scarring. Now that’s not to say it’s magic and I saw immediate results overnight, as no product can really do that. Though, I did see visible results over time after I had incorporated it into my daily night time skincare routine. My pigmentation and scarring has faded quite a significiant amount but is of course not completely gone as like with any scars it takes time to heal and fade.
I completely love the serum and definitely plan to buy another bottle when I finish it, that is when it finally gets restocked again! I love that it is lightweight, not heavily scented, helped to brighten my complexion and lastly & most importantly, helped to fade my pigmentation and scarring. The only downsides for me were that it absorbed a bit too quick and was more watery than I’d like but the benefits to me far outweigh the very minor negatives. I guess it just means I need to work quicker when applying! Oh and another downside, it sells out too quickly haha. Please Cosrx & SokoGlam make some more and restock it soon as I definitely need another bottle!
