January Favourites 2017 + mini reviews!

January Favourites Skincare Makeup Flatlay

The first month of 2017 has now passed, so it’s time for a new (and my first!) monthly favourites! Be warned, this post is a little on the long side as there was a lot of things on my favourites list this month! So sit back and enjoy reading.

It’s been quite a hot month in Australia, with 30-40 degree weather and I’m currently in Singapore where it has been quite hot as well! So a lot of my favourites this month have helped me survive this summer heat!

It’s Skin Mangowhite Body Mist

I get pretty lazy to put on body lotion during Summer since I hate feeling sticky and greasy. So I loved to use this body mist when I’m in a rush to leave the house but feel my skin needs a moisture boost. This body mist moisturises my skin without leaving any oily residue. It also has a lovely fruity scent that isn’t too overpowering and fades within an hour.January favourite skincare products

La Roche-Posay Sensi White Lotion + Travel Mist Bottle

The Sensi White Lotion, though called a lotion is actually very watery and clear in colour, almost like a toner but moisturising.  I like to pour this into a travel sized mist bottle I bought from Daiso to use as a facial mist for when my face is feeling dry. The lotion also works very well as a toner and manages to remove any remaining makeup that wasn’t removed with your makeup remover.

Mamonde Rose Water Toner

Before buying this toner, I heard lots of great review about how great it is. I was slightly hesitant to try it myself as I’ve never been much of a fan of anything rose – scented or flavoured. I was pleasantly surprised though as I have now completely fallen in love with this toner! The rose scent isn’t too overpowering and is actually quite soothing. The bottle I bought is actually the large 500ml one but it also comes in a smaller version too. After cleansing, I like to pour a small amount onto a cotton pad and swipe over my face. The toner adds back some moisture to my face and helps me to relax before bed as the scent is so calming.

Missha Time Revolution The First Essence Intensive

After hearing many rave reviews of the Missha The First Treatment Essence and how it is a dupe for the popular and expensive SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, I decided to finally try it for myself. And, I was not disappointed. I like to pour a bit of the essence into my hands and pat into my face after cleansing and toning my face. I love how light yet moisturising it is and that there is only a faint scent to the essence. The essence comes in a solid clear matte glass bottle with a metallic silver screw on lid. The packaging for the essence makes it look and feel very expensive and luxurious, even at such an affordable price. I’ve been using it for a bit over a month now but it’s still practically full as a little really goes a long way.  So it’ll definitely last quite a few months even with daily usage.

Catalina Geo Anti Melanin Soothing Cream

The Catalina Geo Anti Melanin Soothing Cream packaging feels very premium and high-end. The jar is made of a matte blue coloured glass with a silver screw on lid. It also comes with a spatula so you don’t need to use your fingers, keeping the cream hygienic. The cream itself is a pastel blue colour and is almost matte looking. I really liked the texture of the cream as it feels smooth, light and absorbs into the skin well so there isn’t any sticky residue left behind. The cream is a perfect cream for summer as it is light and gives you just the right amount of moisture without leaving  your skin feeling sticky or dry.

Etude House Pink Vital Water Eye Serum

The Pink Vital Water Eye Serum comes in a 35ml tube with a pump which is much more hygienic than the standard eye cream containers. The eye cream is a plain white colour with a slight scent.  Though the amount of cream in the tube may not sound like much, a little pump of the eye cream goes along way so will last months. I’ve had issues in the past with eye creams being too rich, resulting in clogged pores around the eyes so I am always a little worried about trying new ones. But, with this eye cream I haven’t had any problems – it’s moisturising and light so didn’t clog my pores.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Extreme Fluid SPF 50+

I like to use the La Roche-Posay Extreme Fluid sunscreen for my face. I’ve been using it after I’ve completed my skincare routine in the morning and just before I apply my makeup. The sunscreen is very watery as the name “Extreme Fluid” suggests. The sunscreen dries to a matte finish with a slight white cast that isn’t too harsh but does help to even out your skin tone in prep for makeup application. The only downside is that the matte finish makes any dry patches more obviously seen.

Skinfood Aloe Cooling Sun Clear Stick SPF50+ PA+++

I’ve been using the Aloe Cooling Sun Clear Stick as my go-to sunscreen for the body as application is super simple. The fact that it comes in a stick form means it literally only takes me a minute to apply all over my body. The sun stick is also a clear formulation so doesn’t leave my body with a white cast which is what I always dread about with most sunscreens. The formula is also very moisturising but does have a slight oily feel when applied that can easily be solved by massaging the sunscreen in for a few seconds.

Aritaum Jelly Bar No.19 Melting Chou

The lip product that I’ve been using the most this month has been the Aritaum Jelly Bar in No.19 Melting Chou. Melting Chou is a peachy coral colour that leaves a slight glossy look that I think would suit most skin tones. The formula is very moisturising for the lips , almost like a tinted lip balm, so even without applying a lip balm beforehand it glides on well.

Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder

I’ve been using the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder for almost half a year and been really loving it especially now that it’s Summer and my skin tends to get shiny and oily easily. When I had first bought this product and opened it I was surprised that it didn’t look like there was a lot of product inside and thought it wouldn’t last long, but even after using it for so long I still have so much product left!

Biore Sara Sara Body Powder Sheets

Whilst visiting Singapore last year my cousin had recommended me these body powder sheets that she’d been using herself to get rid of the uncomfortable sticky and sweaty feeling whilst your out on a hot day. These body powder sheets are essentially like body wipes but instead of leaving a wet residue after using it, it dries to a powder finish. This powder sheets have been a summer essential for me that are in my bag all the time for me to use whenever I feel in need of a refresher when I’m out during these hot summer days. The powder sheets also come in a variety of scents that leave your skin smelling lovely.

Too Cool For School Egg Mousse Body Oil

Apart from the It’s Skin Body Mist, the Egg Mousse Body Oil has been my go-to product to moisturise my body after I shower and before I go to bed. The body oil comes in a metal tin that you need to shake well before use. I love that the body oil pumps out as a light and foamy mousse that means that I don’t have to worry about the messiness of body oils.  The mousse formula makes the application simple, and lefts skins feeling soft. The scent is very soothing and not overpowering at all.

Rose Gold studs

I’ve been wearing these adorable studs I bought from Accessory Holic in Korea my last trip. The have a real silver post, yet is still super affordable (only 6900 won, around $7). The studs come in a lovely rose gold colour and have a little bow at the top of a circle lined with little crystals. I love how simple and delicate looking these earrings are.January favourite jewellery accessories rose gold earring studs

I’ve been quite addicted to listening to a few songs this month, including:

James Arthur – Say You Won’t Let Go

The lyrics for this song are so sweet and I love his voice!

Ed Sheeran – Castle on the Hill

I’m always a fan of Ed Sheeran so not a surprise I loved this song too! Out of his recent song releases, this one is my favourite.

Jealousy Incarnate OST

I watched the k-drama last year and fell in love with the show as I’m a Gong Hyo Jin fan, and also ended up loving the OST just as much! My faves would have to be Ra.D – Lovesome, Saltnpepper – Bye Autumn, and lastly, Brother Su – Would You Come to Me). The OST has a range of different genres that I enjoyed listening to, but my favourites were the slower tracks.

TV Shows

The Exorcist

I’ve been catching up with many shows this month and been especially enjoying this new American TV series “The Exorcist”. As the title probably suggest, it’s a horror movie. The show is about 2 priests who come to meet by chance and work together to help a family whose daughter is possessed. I’ve always been a huge horror movie buff – but of the supernatural kind not the gory slasher genre. The show can be quite gruesome at times but not so much as to make me squeamish. The effects and overall feel of the show is dark and eerie which I love. If you’re a horror fan, definitely have a look, if you’re not, maybe you should skip it as it is quite creepy!
