It’s already May which means it’s time for a new monthly favourites! I’ve had an exciting but busy few months with travelling and getting back into work. This month’s faves is a combination of February to April since it’s been a while since my last one!
I’m currently loving the VDL + Pantone Lip Cube in the shade 504 Marsala, which like the shade name is a lovely reddish-brown wine colour. The texture is really creamy, soft and moisturising and has a satin finish. I found that even without using lip balm before applying it went on smoothly and evenly, and did not accentuate any dry patches at all! The Lip Cube is very pigmented so you only need to apply one layer to get the shade. I love that the packaging itself looks simple and sleek. The lipstick is shaped into a small triangle to allow easy and precise application on the cupids bow.
Yes, it’s another VDL + Pantone collaboration product on my favourites list (what can I say, I’m a sucker for packaging!). The eyeshadow palettes some in a pretty nude pink case with a large mirror that is more than big enough to use for applying your makeup, so it’s perfect for when you’re travelling. I love the cute and fun little details of the Pantone numbers being listed below each shade. The brush that comes with the palette isn’t particularly good at applying/blending and I found it to just flick the powder around, making a mess with lots of fallout under my eyes. Though that isn’t much of an issue for me as I like to use my fingers to apply and blend out eyeshadows anyways. Other than the nice Pantone collaboration packaging, I did really love the shades on this palette too. On my recent trip overseas I brought this palette along with me as it had a great selection of 12 beautiful everyday shades ranging from nude pinks to browns, and included matte, shimmer and glitter eyeshadows. The eyeshadows were easy to blend and not the most pigmented but this is easily solved by applying a good eyeshadow primer before application or layering up til you reach the desired shade.
Travelling means long days which is why I’ve been loving this Banila Co Primer. I’ve been using this to prime my face before applying my makeup and found it to really help my makeup last longer especially during my time in Singapore where the humid weather really makes it difficult for any makeup to survive very long! The primer also helps to fill in my pores, has a nice matte finish and leaves skin feeling really soft and silky. The texture reminds me a bit of Benefits Porefessional Pore Primer.
This Jane Iredale Dream Tint tinted moisturiser was recommended to me by a family friend who is a beauty therapist & aesthetician, and ever since I started using it, I completely fell in love. The Dream Tint is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested which is great for those with sensitive or acne prone skin. The texture is super light and moisturising and gives you a natural glowy look. Also, as it is a tinted moisturiser and not a foundation it only has a light to medium coverage.
Lastly for the makeup, it’s the Etude House Play 101 Stick Blusher. I love the Etude House Play 101 stick range as they are very affordable and have lots of shades available. I’ve been using the stick blusher in shade #12, a peachy pink colour that is very cute and natural. Since the blush comes in a stick it is easy to get a quick and precise application. The smooth creamy texture means that it is easy to blend out and also that it doesn’t leave your skin feeling or looking dry.
This Avene cream was a complete life or should I say skin saver during my Korea trip as it was winter and the air was not only cold but very dry! I’ve always been a fan of Avene as all its products are always high quality and made for sensitive skin and this cream didn’t disappoint. This cream is super moisturising and very creamy, a little really goes a long way so will definitely last a while. The cream is not meant to be used as a moisturiser but rather as a spot treatment to be applied to any dry problem areas on your face or body. I found it really helpful at soothing my dry irritated skin and is perfect to give those rough dry patches an extra boost of moisture.
For all the late nights and long days, this eye cream really help to soothe and calm my puffy dark circles in the morning. The eye cream has a light gel-like formula that has a clicker to dispense it through the edges of the metal roller ball. Rolling the metal roller along the under eye area helps to cool and reduce the puffiness, and I found it to really help make my eyes feel refreshed in the mornings even with a lack of sleep. I also liked that they included a turn to lock feature for the clicker which is great for travelling as it means you don’t need to worry about the button accidentally being pressed whilst in your bag and making a mess!
So I’ve always wanted to get a pair of Gentle Monster sunglasses so whilst on my recent trip to Korea I finally caved in and bought a pair for myself! If you follow me on Instagram you have problem seen it in a few of my photos already. I managed to visit the Gentle Monster bathhouse store and after seeing and trying all their beautiful glasses, I couldn’t bear to leave the store empty-handed! The glasses all looked and felt so premium, and yet are very reasonably priced considering the high quality. The pair I bought was the Button design in 01 Gold that is made of a sleek glossy black acetate frame with metal gold detailing, black lenses and 100% UV Protection, so they are both fashionable and practical! It also comes in other frames and lenses but I decided on the simple and classic black frame and lenses.
So I bought this a while ago but didn’t actually start using it until recently. Lately I’ve tried to pack lighter and use smaller bags so this pouch has been my new wallet. The size is perfect as it’s small enough to fit into a small handbag but big enough to fit a few cards, some cash/coins and even has some extra room for some hair ties, bobby pins or even a lip balm. I love this cute LAP x Disney collaboration design with the adorable Donald Duck print and the cool reflective chrome and glossy finish that looks almost rainbow like when the light reflects off it.
So I’ve always liked Zion T’s songs, music style and voice so it wasn’t a surprise that I’ve been completely obsessed with Zion T’s new album OO. My favourite songs are ‘This Song/노래’ and ‘ The Bad Guys 나쁜 놈들’. ‘This Song/노래’ is a nice upbeat and fun song that is a great mood booster and has been on repeat ever since I heard it! ‘The Bad Guys 나쁜 놈들’ on the other hand has a slower melody with a jazzy-feel to it and is very calming, a great song to relax and wind down with.
I realise I have a tendency to prefer the slower tracks that BTS release more than the faster paced title tracks, like with their previous comeback I was drawn more to ‘Save Me’ than ‘Fire’ . Don’t get me wrong though, BTS are awesome at making super catchy fast title tracks too and I do love ‘Not Today’ as well! But, I really enjoyed the calm melody of ‘Spring Day’ and that it really showcases their voices.
I know I’m a little slow as this was released last year but I never really got into it until I saw Blackpink perform live in person this year at the 6TH GaonChart Music Award Show (one of the highlights of my Korea trip this year!). And I was blown away by their energy and how great they were live! The song itself was so catchy and their performance was so energetic and fun that after the show I downloaded that song to my phone ASAP. ‘Playing with Fire’ is the perfect energy booster and is now on my gym playlist!
Last for KPOP songs is Monsta X’s 1st Full Album ‘Beautiful’. My favourite tracks are ‘Beautiful ‘, ‘I’ll Be There 넌 어때’ and ‘Ready or Not’ (and yes, I’m a Monbebe as well as an ARMY!). ‘Beautiful’ is the title track of the album with a catchy chorus that had me replaying this track non stop. ‘I’ll Be There넌 어때’ is a ballad with a sweet melody that almost is fairytale-like and dreamy, and I love it even more since my bias of the group wrote this beautiful song!. Lastly, ‘Ready or Not’ is a fast paced song with an addictive chorus with strong electronic beats that is now also on my gym playlist.
Well how could I not fall in love with this song when it’s been playing everywhere and when Bruno Mars is singing this catchy beat. ‘That’s What I Like’ is such a cool and chill song that after a few listens you’ll be completely addicted to and probably can’t help but want to sing along too, well at least I couldn’t!
First up is Jane the Virgin – a fun and quirky show with an amazing cast. The show has never disappointed with lots of outrageous (in a good way), fun plots twists and a loveable, down-to-earth and relatable leading lady – Jane! If you love a good cute and light-hearted rom-com/family drama then definitely give this a try!
So I’ve always been a fan of zombie shows so no surprise that I loved this too. But iZombie is a little different from the usual zombie show as it’s a comedy and crime show where the main character, Liv is a zombie who works as a coroner and helps the police to solve cases. So it’s definitely not a normal zombie show with lots of random but funny moments!
So yep, I’m also a K-Drama addict and with so many new dramas released I’ve been slowly watching my way through my very long list! Weightlifting Kim Bok Joo was so fun to watch as the main couple had awesome chemistry (and are actually now dating, how cute!) and even though it didn’t have the most unique or crazy kdrama plot twists, it didn’t seem long or slow at all as the main characters were all really loveable and relatable.
I’ve always been a fan of Park Bo Young ever since I first saw her in ‘A Werewolf Boy’ with Song Joong Ki, and she was super adorable and sweet! And on a side note, they honestly would make a super cute couple and I would love to see them in another movie or drama together! Anyways moving on, Strong Woman Do Bong Soo is a fun and comic-like drama that had me laughing throughout. All the characters have so much personality and the main cast were super cute and had lots of great chemistry – lots of romance and bromance too!
So that’s it for my April Favourites!
